The works are distillations from an abundance of slowly organised material, realised as sequences and groups; similes of common experiences composed of objects which are re-manufactures, hybrids and inventions; instruments, tools and containers. The objects are crafted to maintain a close link with the manufactured originals, but scale, and the narrative of the groups allows any initial recognition to move on to explore new public and personal meanings.
..In “Eye, Heart, Diaphragm and Adrenal’, Fusco uses forms and similes on several levels, the weight and form of an original soap dispenser parallels the heart, other sources are found in alchemy and scientific material.
“Where an earlier piece like ‘Wet & Dry’ defines extremes in a set, ‘Dew’ presents range of ‘matter’, using the codes of expectation by which we recognise and use substances. We have a learned language for common designed objects, but only ever consider it in an unfamiliar setting, or when confused by a new substance. It’s a commentary on material aesthetics. but the change of scale lets bigger narratives, references, and dialogues take place. Its not about the object, its about the viewer.” DF.
